En caso de pérdida, las unidades guardadas en la tarjeta se perderán, ya que la tarjeta no viene protegida por código PIN.

El lector de tarjetas se instala como un ratón en el puerto PS/2 o serie.

No, no existe ningún 'royalty' ligado al consumo de unidades.

La tarjeta de usuario es válida hasta que se estropee físicamente.

No, las tarjetas son las propietarias de una instalación y se identifican con un código de cliente.

A smart card is a plastic card as large as a credit card embedded with an integrated circuit chip.
It is read by a card attached or built into a PC, an Internet terminal or Network Computer.
The chip holds various types of information in electronic form with sophisticated security mechanisms.
Smart cards give rise to an infinite variety of uses that will change many aspects of the way we live.
Why is it so smart ?
The chip stores information in the microprocessor which makes it much more secure than magnetic stripe cards, which carry information on the outside of the card and can be easily copied.
The intelligence of the chip also offers a read/write capability which allows new information to be added or processed.
For example, users can store digital signatures, e-mail addresses, URLs and other preferences and monetary value can be added and debited.

¿Puede el usuario grabar datos en el disco duro ?
Los ficheros del disco duro están protegidos contra escritura, así que el usuario no puede modificar, eliminar o renombrar ningún archivo.
Sin embargo, existe una carpeta específica que sí es accesible y le permite grabar sus archivos en un disquette.
P: ¿Qué pasa cuando el administrador o el operador pierde su tarjeta o bien es robada ?
La tarjeta está protegida por un código confidencial (código PIN) definido por el propietario.
En caso de pérdida, la tarjeta queda inservible.
En caso de robo, y al tener sólo un máximo de tres intentos para adivinar el PIN, la tarjeta queda inutilizable al tercer intento fallido.
De esta manera la información queda protegida.
